Do You Worry for Your Safety? - Top Arts 2024
This large-scale intaglio print series explores trauma, primarily conveying the intensity and violence of emotions. The repeated scratching at acetate sheets, manifests the impact of mental illness through harsh gestural lines. Furthermore, utilizing a traditional medium implies the manner in which mental illness exists, even when society rejects it. My artwork explores family violence/abuse by incorporating structures found commonly in the home. Additionally, the elongated neck of these figures uses literal distance to symbolise the disconnection between mind and physical body, expressing my personal experiences of gender dysphoria as a trans-man.
